Oban Saints earned top marks at Larbert High School last Saturday afternoon with a convincing performance to ease past Stenhousemuir Foundation and secure a place in the third round of the Scottish Premier Football Association Cinema Cup.

Strikes from Louie MacFarlane and Keiran Griffin complemented braces from Daniel MacVicar and Rhys Millar and a four-goal haul from top marksman Connor Moore with the only blemish on an otherwise perfect day being a late counter from the home side to deny Saints a third consecutive clean sheet.

Gaffer Steven MacLeod made three changes to the squad which had secured Scottish Amateur Cup progress two weeks earlier. Out went injured trio David Beaton, Aidan Jackson and Craig Livingstone while Graham Douglas dropped to the bench making way for the return of goalkeeper Craig Maitland. Also returning to action were Daniel MacCuish, Matty Pollock and Kuba Ryska.

Saints lined up with Craig Maitland in goal behind a back three of Louie MacFarlane, Captain Scott Maitland and Matthew Pollock. In the middle of the park were Arron McKay, Gavin Forgrieve and Daniel MacCuish flanked by wingbacks Daniel MacVicar and Donald Campbell. Up front were Connor Moore and Rhys Millar. Joining On the substitutes bench were Kenneth Black, Innes Fraser, Keiran Griffin, Kuba Ryska and goalkeeper Graham Douglas.

Hosts Stenhousemuir Foundation kicked off and were first to threaten from a throw-in conceded by Louie MacFarlane on the Saints' right. Greig Ballantyne launched a long throw into the Saints' eighteen-yard box which Daniel MacCuish got his head to but could only help on to Stenny Skipper Adam Cunningham for a spectacular overhead kick which flew wide of target.

Saints clicked into gear after five minutes with a perfectly weighted ball through the inside right channel from Gavin Forgrieve for Daniel MacVicar to run onto. MacVicar held off the challenge of Ryan Scott to rifle the ball past the right hand of keeper Mark Angus and into the top corner of the net for his first Saints' goal.

MacVicar had the chance to double his tally four minutes later when Matty Pollock, Donald Campbell and Connor Moore combined on the left before Moore picked out MacVicar's run from the right for a low shot inches wide of Mark Angus' left-hand post.

Midfield triumvirate Aaron McKay, Gavin Forgrieve and Daniel MacCuish were moving the ball about well in the middle of the park and, along with left wingback Donald Campbell, all three were involved in setting up Connor Moore for Saints' second goal after fifteen minutes.

Daniel MacVicar completed his brace four minutes later after Aaron McKay had won possession on the halfway line in typically combative style. McKay released Connor Moore on the left whose cutback rolled behind strike partner Rhys Millar but perfectly into the stride of MacVicar for a first-time left foot shot into the bottom corner from eleven yards.

The fourth goal came on the counterattack after the Saints' defence had dealt comfortably with another Greig Ballantyne long throw-in. Captain Scott Maitland took down Ballantyne's twenty-fourth minute throw from the right and carried the ball out from the back before releasing on the left wing. Campbell picked out Gavin Forgrieve in the middle who unselfishly tee'd up Daniel MacVicar for a hat-trick attempt which was blocked by Rennie Hamilton. Connor Moore was quickest to react to the loose ball which he slammed past Mark Angus from seven yards range.

Another block, this time from Ryan Scott, denied Daniel MacVicar again before he linked well with Gavin Forgrieve in the twenty-fourth minute to send Connor Moore through to complete his hat-trick.

Louie MacFarlane joined Oban Camanachd colleague Daniel MacVicar on the score sheet with a thumping header in the thirty-fourth minute. Aaron McKay's driving run on the left won a corner-kick from which Donald Campbell came short to play back to Gavin Forgrieve. A perfect delivery from Forgrieve found the forehead of Louie MacFarlane whose effort flew into the net for Saints' sixth goal.

Stenny keeper Mark Angus made a good save to prevent Donald Campbell from piling on more first-half agony before Daniel MacCuish shaved the outside of the post with a left foot shot from eighteen yards.

An adventurous run from forward from his role on the left of the back three saw Matty Pollock hit the bye-line for a cutback to Rhys Millar who rattled the crossbar with mark Angus well beaten. Connor Moore was first to the rebound but saw his effort deflected wide of target. From the corner flag Gavin Forgrieve produced another excellent delivery which Matty Pollock headed wide at the back post.

Saints' Gaffer Steven MacLeod demanded no let-up from his charges in the second half which began with the home side having their first attempt on goal with a long-range effort from Cameron Girvan which Craig Maitland needed two attempts to bring under control.

Rhys Millar hit the crossbar for a second time with a thumping effort from twenty-five yards before he finally opened his account getting on the end of a fifty-fifth minute Aaron McKay cross from the right to slot past Mark Angus.

Before Referee Pat O'Donnell, who handled proceedings well, restarted the action Saints sent on all four outfield substitutes replacing Matty Pollock, Daniel MacVicar, Donald Campbell and Daniel MacCuish with Kenneth Black, Kuba Ryska, Innes Fraser and Keiran Griffin.

After just two minutes on the park substitutes Keiran Griffin and Innes Fraser combined with Fraser doing well on the left to square for Griffin in the middle to fire home from fourteen yards.

In the sixty-second minute Louie MacFarlane's long run forward from the back was halted, unfairly, twenty-five yards from goal. Gavin Forgrieve resisted the temptation to shoot for goal himself instead rolling the ball to Connor Moore who arrowed a low shot unerringly into the bottom corner for Saints' ninth goal.

Saints had another dead-ball opportunity in the seventieth minute which Connor Moore struck with venom clipping the outside of the junction of post and crossbar.

Pushing hard for a tenth goal left Saints exposed at the back and the hosts exploited the space well with substitute Matthew Newlands finding the net for a well taken seventy-fifth minute consolation.

Rhys Millar rounded off the scoring with six minutes of the ninety remaining. Kenneth Black and Innes Fraser combined on the left with Fraser sending Connor Moore racing through on goal again. mark Angus mad a good stop to deny Moore, but his luck was out when the ball broke to Innes Fraser who unselfishly set up Millar for his second and Saints' tenth goal.

Another good Mark Angus save prevented Rhys Millar from completing his hat-trick and Aaron McKay blazed over from twenty-two yards before Mr O'Donnell's final whistle brought proceedings to a close.

This coming Saturday the D&K Lafferty Contractors and MKM Building Supplies sponsored Saints travel to Renfrewshire to face Kilbarchan Thistle of the Greater Glasgow Premier Amateur Football League Division One in the fourth round of the Scottish Amateur Cup. Kick-off on the grass surface at Miller Street is scheduled for 2pm.
